My Story

From an early age I have loved art and being creative. Once my children started school I decided to commence a Fine Art Degree at the University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury, whilst employed as a teaching assistand for special needs students at Mid-Kent College. On completing my Degree I progressed onto a Masters in Fine Art, achieving a Distinction. Cathy was studying for her Masters at the same time, on meeting we became good friends and it was Cathy, already an experienced Art Tutor, who supported my transition into Teaching Art at East Kent College, Canterbury.  Here I gained my teaching qualification and taught on the access to art, a course aimed for young adults to progress onto degree level studies. I thoroughly enjoyed designing lessons and seeing students confidence and ability grow, progressing onto University.  I was also approached to teach on a project for young asylum seekers, to support their transition into education in England. An incredibly rewarding experience, seeing them settle into a stable environment and able to plan for their future. I along with Cathy also delivered a community christmas workshop at Beach Creative Herne bay, where we created a workshop for local children and their parents to make christmas decorations for the town christmas tree. 

As a self-employed artist and educator I have taught on Adult Art Courses, where students learnt the fundamentals of drawing, colour and application, using pencil, watercolour, pastels, acrylics and mixed media. 

Private commissions have included a mural for Cosgroves Cafe in Faversham and individual paintings. Additionally I teach Childrens After-school Art classes from my own studio. I am especially proud of one of my young students, whose painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art Children's Summer Show. 

My ethos for teaching is to teach how I would like to be taught, and to always look for the positive in the artwork of those I teach, before giving constructive advice.
